History of Earls Court
Once a smart extension of Kensington and South Kensington, many of the big houses in Earls Court were converted to flats, studios, and bedsits after 1945 which was one of the cheapest areas close to central London. Due to the rising property market from the 1980s Earls Court saw a gradual reversion of these properties back into single homes and luxury flats.
What is sometimes termed "east Earls Court" lies to the south of Cromwell Road and to the east of Earls Court Road is home to many multi-million pound apartments and houses in smart garden squares and residential streets. Moving South, one enters the richest enclave of Earls Court - The Boltons, where real estate sells for some of the highest rates per square metre in Europe.
Still known for its array of small hotels and large venues (Earls Court for gigs and Olympia for exhibitions), Earl’s court is an area with many cafés, restaurants and bars giving it a village feel. It has many flats and apartments to suit a variety of budgets. It used to be a well known gay area in the 70’s and still remains so but in a less overt way to Soho or Vauxhall.
