Property Covent Garden

Covent Garden Area Guide

Property for sale or rent in Covent Garden, WC2

Originally the kitchen garden for a large convent (hence the slightly-evolved name), Covent Garden has been synonymous with fruit and veg for over 700 years, until the famous Covent Garden Market was moved across the Thames in the late 20th century. Today, Covent Garden still boasts three markets, but the food is more of the gourmet nature, and you’ll also find the finest clothing, jewellery, artwork, antiques and much else. Many leading fashion
designers also have shops in the streets around Covent Garden, and there are delis, bars and restaurants galore.

Covent Garden is also a haven for the arts, from street performers through to several of London’s leading theatres. The Royal Opera House, English National Opera and the Royal Ballet are at its heart, with the British Museum and the Courtauld Institute located on its edges.

Famous local residents have included David Garrick the actor (well, it is Theatreland), royal consort Nell Gwynne, and Oliver Cromwell.
